Details/Condition: This original piece features three prints from acclaimed artist Maxfield Parrish's "Florentine Fete", separated into three sections within one frame. The three sections include "The Garden of Opportunity" and two other pieces that are reprints of Parrish's expansive mural that was painted on the girl's cafeteria wall for the female staff of the Ladies' Home Journal. Each of the three sections are dated separately, with the sections on either side dated 1911 and the middle dated 1915. Each contains Parrish's name on the bottom right corner, as well as "Copr. Curtis Publishing Co., Copr. Detroit Publishing Co." The work shows light age/wear, with some cracking and pieces lacking along the frame.

Notes: Decoratively bound in green cloth with bright gilt and black embossing, this antique set is a gorgeous work describing an expansive list of botany terms. The set includes volumes one through eight, and volume two of the Century Supplement, published in 1900, containing terms for letters G-Z. The work contains color frontispiece illustrations of flowers, black and white engravings in the text, and full-page color lithographs. The volumes show moderate external age/wear, with rubbing to the spine and board edges and occasional moisture indications. The gilt on most of the volumes' spines is bright and decorative, with gilded page edges. The text blocks are solidly bound with lightly age toned pages. The books measure approximately 7 3/4" x 10".

Condition/Details: Bound in original wrappers with bright front cover illustration, this volume is a scarce first edition of Chilean author Isabel Allende's debut novel. The novel was critically acclaimed around the world, and catapulted Allende to literary stardom. That same year, the novel was named Best Novel of the Year in Chile, and she received the country's Panorama Literario award. The novel has been translated to over 20 languages worldwide. In 1993 the book was adapted into a film ("The House of the Spirits") by Danish director Bille August. The movie starred Jeremy Irons as Esteban Trueba, Meryl Streep as Clara del Valle Trueba, Winona Ryder as Blanca Trueba, Glenn Close as Férula Trueba and Antonio Banderas as Pedro Tercero García.

The book bears a gift inscription from linguist Mercedes Solano to Margarita Suner, Cornell professor emerita. The volume shows very light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean pages. The book measures approximately 6" x 8 1/2" and contains 380 pages.
