Hough - Dated 1867 by Charles Van Benthuysen & Sons - This large volume contains a summary of the population and businesses of New York State during the final year of the Civil War. Volume shows some wear, with the front board detached and the rear board secured to the spine cover with tape. Text block contains age-toned pages with moisture indications.
- Census of the State of New York for 1875 by C. W. Seaton - Dated 1877 by Weed, Parsons and Company This volume has been professionally restored, with newer boards and a tight binding.

Condition/Details: Bound in original wrappers with bright color illustration to front cover, this vintage volume is a scarce early printing of the classical popular study on cultural imperialism and children's literature that was first published in Chile in 1971 during the years of the Popular Unity government. Author and human rights activist Ariel Dorfman (currently Walter Hines Page Research Professor of Literature and Professor of Latin American Studies at Duke University) served as cultural advisor to President Salvador Allende during that time. The book was subsequently banned and burned.

The work is illustrated with a number of Disney comic strip drawings. The volume is in uncommonly well-preserved condition and shows very light external age/wear. It is solidly bound with clean pages. The book measures approximately 7" x 10 1/4" and contains 112 pages.

Notes: Bound in brown pebbled cloth with three quarter leather, this antique set provides a history of Steuben County, NY, a county along the southern border of New York, bordering Pennsylvania. The county was named in honor of Baron von Steuben, a German general who fought on the American side in the American Revolutionary War, though it is not pronounced the same. Steuben County was split off from Ontario County in 1796. In 1823 a portion of Steuben County was combined with a portion of Ontario County to form Yates County. Steuben County was further reduced in size in 1854 when a portion was combined with portions of Chemung and Tompkins Counties to form Schuyler County. (history courtesy of Wikipedia)

This lot includes the group of books published by the Roycrofters shown in the corresponding image(s). Some titles include: Manhattan and Henry Hudson (bound together in one volume), Little Journeys to the Homes of English Authors and Elbert Hubbard's Scrap Book. The volumes in this lot were produced by the Roycrofters, a renowned reformist community of craft workers and artists which formed part of the Arts and Crafts movement in the USA. Elbert Hubbard founded the community in 1895 in the village of East Aurora, Erie County, New York, near Buffalo. The work and philosophy of the group, often referred to as the Roycroft movement, had a strong influence on the development of American architecture and design in the early 20th century. Elbert Green Hubbard (June 19, 1856 May 7, 1915) was an eccentric American writer, publisher, artist, and philosopher. He was an influential exponent of the Arts and Crafts movement who produced not only fine books but furniture in this aesthetic, and was a prolific writer himself; he is perhaps most famous for his essay "A Message to Garcia."
