Description: This is a scarce signed limited edition of this work. This is copy 157 of 300. W. K. Bixby's initials appear under limitation statement. The collector's inscription on front flyleaf reads "W. D. Ellwanger / Compliments of / W. K. Bixby / St. Louis Oct 2nd 1908." Signed letter by Bixby addressed to Mr. Ellwanger (dated Oct. 3rd, 1908) is laid in.  Contains an introduction is by William H. Samson.

Condition: Antique volume bound in gray cloth boards with blue cloth spine. Paste-on title labels appears on spine (with small tear) and front board. Boards show some fading to edges. Book is solidly bound. Interior is clean and unmarked. Pages are fresh and crisp. This work is illustrated with tissue-guarded steel engravings and a facsimile of a survey by Washington.

Description: This is a scarce first edition of this work devoted to the art of Joan Mitchell (February 12, 1925 – October 30, 1992) that appeared the collection "Mains et merveilles" directed by Joaquim Vital. Michel Waldberg contributes a 31 page essay entitled "L'azur, qui est du noir."

Joan Mitchell was a "second generation" abstract expressionist painter. She was an essential member of the American Abstract expressionist movement, even though much of her career took place in France. Along with Lee Krasner, Grace Hartigan, and Helen Frankenthaler she was one of her era's few female painters to gain critical and public acclaim. Her paintings and editioned prints can be seen in major museums and collections across America and Europe.

Condition: Volume with glossy illustrated boards and glossy illustrated slipcase are in excellent condition. Volume contains 252 color illustrations, with a short chronology, followed by a section with black & white photographs of Mitchell throughout her life, a 10 page bibliography, list of main exhibitions of her work and image index.

Description: This is a folio volume of eleven mounted original photographic plates of the lunar surface, dated from 1894 to 1902. Each mounting sheet bears a caption in French, indicated the time and date that the photo was captured, with Paris time used. This volume likely accompanied a textual volume, there is no title page and the only information included is a hand-written label on the spine which reads "Pariser Mondphotografien." There are eleven plates included, each is numbered in sequence with no gaps and there is no indication of any later plates having been removed.

Book Details:
This is a folio volume of 11 mounted original photographic plates of the lunar surface, dated from 1894 to 1902. Each mounting sheet bears a caption in French, indicated the time and date that the photo was captured, with Paris time used. This volume likely accompanied a textual volume, there is no title page and the only information included is a hand-written label on the spine which reads "Pariser Mondphotografien." There are 11 plates included, each is numbered in sequence with no gaps and there is no indication of any later plates having been removed; this volume is believed to be complete, as bound. Laid in is a double-page plate showing a table of graphs, with text in German.

Condition: The book shows some moderate external age wear, the binding is tight and secure. The plates show beautifully with strong, contrasting tones. 10 of the plates still host their original tissue guards. The pages show well with some toning concentrated at the edges. There is an owner's inscription on the front endpaper, dated December 22, 1915.
