Condition/Details: Bound in wrappers with bright pictorial front cover, this antique volume is a scarce program for the opera "Ruslan and Lyudmila" by Mikhail Glinka as performed by the Opera Russe in Paris, with choreography by Bronislava Nijinska (1891 - 1972) and stage setting by Nicholas Evreinoff. Cover design and tipped-in color plates are by Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin (1876 1942), a 20th-century illustrator and stage designer who took part in the "Mir iskusstva" and contributed to the "Ballets Russes," and whose work, inspired by Slavic folklore, is fully on display in the costumes and decor of this performance. This program contains introduction and synopsis in both French and English.

Condition/Details: Staple-bound in wrappers, this antique volume is a scarce autographed record of the itinerary of a trip by Governor George Washington Hays to the State of California in 1914. The governor's signature appears in ink at the top of the first page. The date June 25, 1914, is visible immediately underneath it. The signature of Governor Elliot W. Major of Missouri, also in ink, appears at the bottom of the page, above the date July 3rd, 1914. Numerous other signatures, all in pencil, presumably members of the party traveling with the governor, also appear on that page. The work provides a detailed schedule of the journey, with detailed commentary on towns and sites along the route. An unsigned duplicate of this volume is also provided. This lot includes two 1800's, large-format privately-bound volumes of sheet music. These antique volumes bound in half leather are a unique compilation of early sheet music. As was often an aristocratic custom during the 1800's, this book was created at the specific request of the owner, by a private bindery. Favorite selections were presented to the binder who created the handsome, custom volume. This compilation includes decorative title pages. Two of the volumes show significant external age/wear. Both of these volumes have detached boards and lack spine covers. Third volume is solidly bound with edgewear. Text blocks of all three are intact with age-toned pages that show staining throughout. Condition/Details:This work is a collection of nine 11" x 14" loose sheets (color and duotone illustrations) in a creme printed sleeve, accompanied by a twelve-page introductory booklet (in stapled wraps) by Latrobe Carroll.

Ruth Robinson Carroll (1899-1999) and "Archer" Latrobe Carroll (1894-1996) together wrote many books for children, with illustrations done by Ruth. They received the Juvenile Award of the American Association of University Women, North Carolina chapter in 1953 for their book "Peanut," and in 1955 for "Digby the Only Dog." They lived in Asheville, North Carolina.

Illustrated sheets and booklets are in fine condition. Sleeves show minor edgewear and light markings. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $6.50
