Condition/Details: Appearing in a pair of large protective cases, this antique set showcasing the work of Stephen Collins Foster, from Foster Hall Reproductions, includes "...200 discovered Foster songs and compositions, to which are added all known arrangements of his own work and also his arrangements of the work of others." Originally, these sets were never available for sale, and were presented to select libraries free of charge. The work is presented in individual pieces of sheet music, each featuring illustrated covers. The foreword states that 1,000 copies were produced. The pieces show light external age/wear, and are solidly bound with clean pages. Each case measures approximately 10 1/4" x 14 1/2".

Title: A Fable of Bidpai
Translator: Nicholas Siegl
Publisher: Janus Press (West Burke, Vermont)
Printing Year: 1974 Signed Limited Edition

Condition/Details: Bound in boards covered with mustard yellow paper jacket, this vintage work was translated from the Buch Der Weisheit of 1483. According to the limitation page, this edition "was designed, printed and bound by Claire Van Vliet; the text was handset by Nancy Boylen in 12 pt Monotype Times New Roman. The paper is Hosokawa and the cover is Strathmore." This volume is copy number 85 of a limited 300 copies.

Helen Siegl studied art in her native Austria under Professor Oswald Haetel at the Academie Fur Angewandte Kunst, Vienna. She applied and then received an apprenticeship with Haetel and worked in his studio from 1946 to 1951. In 1952, Siegl moved to Montreal, Canada, and shortly thereafter married Theodor Siegl, Conservator of Paintings for the Philadelphia Museum of Art. During her career, Helen Siegl gained a large reputation for both her individual signed and numbered prints and for her book illustrations. In this latter category, she illustrated such well known works as Aesop's Fables (Random House), Birds and Beasts (World Publishing), Earrings for Celia (Pantheon), Indian Tales (Random House) and Mother Goose & Herbal (Janus Press). As a printmaker, Siegl was well known for her innovative techniques, often combining wood blocks, linoleum block and even plaster blocks within the same work of art. Siegl's original woodcuts are now included in the permanent collections of such major galleries as The Philadelphia Museum of Fine Art, the New York Public Library and the Library of Congress, Washington, DC. The volume shows beautifully, with very light external age/wear. The volume is solidly bound with clean pages. The book measures approximately 7 1/2" x 11".

Details/Condition: This piece features original drawings by renowned artist Edwin J. Meeker. The drawings are of the "Site of General McPherson's Death, Atlanta, GA." The drawings were later engraved for The Century and in Battles & Leaders of the Civil War, volume IV. The work shows light external age/wear, with age toning and rubbing to the paper, with some creasing and chipping at the corners and a one inch tear along the top right edge, not affecting the drawings.

- The Pictorial History of the American Revolution by Unattributed - Dated 1845 by Robert Sears - This volume is illustrated with several hundred engravings. The signature containing 195-206 has started to detach from the text block. An inscription in ink appears on the second front flyleaf.

Notes: These early Life magazines are stored in a maroon portfolio. The issues were at one time bound with the portfolio. Several individual issues are separated, while several remain tied together. All of the issues are separated from the portfolio. The magazines show well, with color and black and white wrappers with illustrated covers. This version of Life founded in 1883 was similar to Puck and was published for 53 years as a general-interest light entertainment magazine, heavy on illustrations, jokes and social commentary. It featured some of the greatest writers, editors and cartoonists of its era, including Charles Dana Gibson, Norman Rockwell and Harry Oliver. (history courtesy of Wikipedia)
