This work first appeared in 1690 and was one of the principal sources of empiricism in modern philosophy, and influenced many Enlightenment philosophers, such as David Hume and George Berkeley. This is volume II, containing books 3 and 4. The volume has expected wear/rubbing, binding is quite sturdy. Condition/Details: Bound in brown cloth with bright gilt embossing, this antique volume is a scarce work by American orientalist Morris Jastrow, Jr. (1861-1921). Jastrow was one of the editors of the Jewish Publication Society's Jewish Encyclopedia (1901-1906), as well as a contributor to the Encyclopedia Biblica (1903). He was president of the American Oriental Society in the years 1914-15 and president of the Society of Biblical Literature in 1916. Jastrow discusses the history of what he deems the three zionisms (religious, economic, political) and develops a critique of the idea of converting Palestine into a Jewish state.

The volume shows light external age/wear, with some marks to front board, splitting at bottom of front gutter, loss at ends of spine and loss of top edge of rear board. Hinges are splitting. Cucius In Hierusal and depicts a church next to the ruins of an ampitheater. This plate was excised from the work Antiquae Urbis Splendor, a work featuring many early views of Rome by Giacomo Lauro. Giacomo Lauro (1550–1605), also called Giacomo da Treviso, was an Italian painter, of the late Renaissance, active mainly in his native Venice and Treviso. Condition/Details: Bound in full leather with bright gilt lettering to black spine label, this antique volume is a scarce medical work written by Jerome Van Croninsfield Smith (1800-1879), who served as the fourteenth mayor of Boston from 1854-1855. The work contains many in-text and full-page anatomical drawings. Binding is cracked along front gutter. Boards and spine show light wear. Pages are clean and bright. The book measures approximately 5" x 7.5" and contains 280 pages.

Details/Condition: This original, antique hand-tinted copper engraving is on laid paper. This work features an image of a Pleuronectes Bilineatus fish. The backside of the engraving is blank. This plate is exised from Ichtyologie ou Histoire Naturelle Générale et Particulière des Poissons by Marcus Eliezer Bloch (1723-1799). Bloch was a German ichthyologist and physician. He was one of the foremost scientists in this field. His “Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische" with 432 excellent copper etching plates of fish, published in Berlin between 1781 - 1795 in 12 volumes.
