This is a first printing from Reynal & Hitchcock, with no additional printings listed on the copyright page. The work is illustrated with a frontispiece map. The volume shows light external age/wear, with some moisture indications and rubbing, and is securely bound with lightly age-toned pages. The book measures approximately 5.5" x 8.5" and contains 993 pages.

Condition/Details: Bound in half-leather over black cloth with gilt lettering on the front board, this antique volume is a Latin atlas, with handsomely hand-tinted maps of the World. This work has been collated, and contains all of the called-for 27 double-page maps, hand-colored in outline. The volume shows external age/wear, with the leather along the spine lacking, and wear and rubbing to the leather and cloth on the boards. Some restoration work has been performed, and the volume is solidly bound. The maps show very well, with only occasional signs of age, and toning affecting the edge of some pages less than 1/4" in from the edge. The rear free endpaper has been torn and is lacking the bottom half. The book measures approximately 10" x 15".

The work is illustrated with a hand-colored frontispiece portrait in the first volume. The first and eighth volumes have been bound in three-quarter leather over marbled boards with matching marbled endpapers and page edges, while volumes two through seven are bound in full leather. The volumes show some external age/wear, with rubbing to the leather and extremities, and the spine labels lacking from volumes two through seven. The bottom spine label of volume one is separating from the spine. The volumes are solidly bound with clean, age-toned pages, with occasional foxing and moisture indications. The books measure approximately 5.25" x 8.5".

Condition/Details: Bound in marbled board, this antique volume is a very scarce early atlas of Broome County, New York. This atlas contains 26 pages of color maps, including numerous full-page maps and several pages containing multiple maps. Additionally, the work contains an engraving of the state Inebriate Asylum, as well as four other engraved pages showing architecture and buildings throughout the county. The volume shows advanced age/wear, being completely unbound. The pages show a fine patina, with age-toning and chipping along the edges. The color maps remain fine pieces of geographic history, with gorgeous color tones. The book measures approximately 14" x 16".

Condition/Details: Rebound in blue cloth, this antique volume is a scarce early printing of this work on exploration in the African Desert. This work provides the accounts of "surviving officers and crew who were enslaved by the wandering Arabs on the great African Desert, or Zahahrah." The work is illustrated with a fold-out map of the desert, as well as all-called for engravings of scenes in the desert. This volume has been rebound in library-issued boards, with white handwritten title on the spine, as well as a spine label, bookplate on the front endpaper and handwriting on the title page. Bound with this volume is an 1818 printing of A Narrative of the Shipwreck of the Ship Oswego on the Coast of South Barbary, and of the Sufferings of the Master and the Crew While in Bondage Among the Arabs by Judah Paddock.

The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with age-toned and foxed pages. The pages were trimmed when rebound. The book measures approximately 5.5" x 8.75" and contains 186 pages.

This lot includes the Civil War-era handwritten letter. This document is dated 1863 from Camp Blifs. The letter is written to "Dear Friend John", and discusses the soldiers waiting for payment, drills performed by the soldiers, the soldier's intent to visit the battle fields of Bull Run and Shantilly, and the expense of carrying on the War. The letter is signed P. M. Randall. The letter also contains a location of places the soldier had been, including Arkansas, Saragossa and Passaic. The document is on period paper, measuring approximately 7.75 x 9.75" and is three and a half pages long. The paper contains signs of having been folded, with minor tears and holes at the folds. Details/Condition: This piece features an original oil painting on canvas of "Girl with Tambourine," by or after noted artist Pierre de Coninck (1828-1910). This acclaimed piece portrays a young gypsy girl holding a crimson and gold tambourine. The portrait is of the upper half of the girl's body. The canvas painting is on a wooden frame. The work shows external age/wear, with flaking and loss to the paint and canvas, concentrated along the edges. There are several holes in the canvas. The work shows patina, with the fine portrayal of the girl showing very well.

Notes: This antique set is a scarce first edition collection of works from Alexander Hamilton. This set contains the most important official reports issued by Hamilton while he was Secretary of the Treasury, as well as the important early Americana political work, The Federalist. The work is illustrated with frontispiece portraits of Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay. The volumes are lacking boards and spines, which have been replaced with stiff paper wrappers. Internally, the text blocks are well-bound, with age-toned pages, showing some foxing and browning. A previous owner's ink signature is present on the title pages of volumes two and three. The volume shows light external age/wear, with rubbing along the edges of the spine and boards. The volume is solidly bound with lightly age-toned pages, showing occasional foxing. Several pages show signs of creasing at the corners. The book measures approximately 5.25" x 8.5" and contains 339 pages, followed by the publisher's advertisements.
