Notes: Bound in blind-stamped pebbled dark brown cloth with gilt lettering on the spines, this antique set is a scarce detailed set on the exploration in the Amazon by Lieutenants Gibbon and Herndon. The second volume by Lt. Gibbon has a label of House of Representatives along the top of the title page. The work is profusely illustrated with full-page lithographed plates, many of which are tinted. Volume two includes two fold-out maps. The volumes show mild external age/wear, with shelf wear and sunning mostly to volume two. The volumes are securely bound, though some play is evident. The pages are age-toned and show foxing. The two fold-out maps are each torn along the bottom, inside panel. The books measure approximately 6" x 9".

The green pictorial wrappers feature a small boy against a green background, with white lettering. The wrappers have flaps at the front and rear, similar to those of a dust jacket. The volume shows light external age/wear, with shelf wear and some light loss along the extremities. The volume is solidly bound with age-toned pages. The book measures approximately 6.5" x 9" and contains 182 pages.

Condition/Details: Bound in blind-stamped red cloth with gilt lettering, this scarce antique cookbook is a French work providing many recipes for lunches, dinners, and more. The work is illustrated with many in-text engravings This work contains the signature of the previous owner, Virginia B. Catlin, wife of the Civil War Officer Isaac S. Catlin, from Owego, New York. This volume was purchased from the estate of General Catlin. The volume shows light external age/wear, with light moisture indications and rubbing along the extremities. The internal hinges show some cracking, and the text block is solidly bound with clean pages, showing some age-toning.
