Title: The Wild Palms

Condition/Details: Bound in green paper wrappers with yellow lettering, this vintage volume is an advance review copy of the first edition of Faulkner’s Wild Palms, later renamed If I Forget Thee, Jerusalem . This uncorrected proof features the first edition dust jacket as its wrappers, trimmed flush with the pages. The copyright page states this is a first printing. The volume shows some external age/wear, with creasing and chipping to the paper wrappers, concentrated along the extremities and spine, and the bottom corner of the rear wrapper lacking. The front and rear flaps of the wrappers are detached and present inside the wrappers. The text block is securely bound with lightly age-toned pages, with a slight cocking to the spine. Light moisture indications are present within the text block, concentrated on the first fifty pages. This volume has been carefully stored in a custom clamshell box. The book measures approximately 5.25" x 8" and contains 339 pages.

Details/Condition: This lot features eight Su Jius made in the early Twentieth Century. These gorgeous items feature glass, ceramic and stone bodies, vividly painted with floral patterns and solid colors. Each piece features plated copper decorations and lids. These items come from the Uyghur people of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of Northwestern China. These pieces were carried by horsemen and camel riders, and contained alcoholic beverages. These items are themed with different animals from the Chinese Zodiac, including rabbits and monkeys. These items have pottery marks on the bottom, as shown in the images accompanying this lot. This lot is one of several featuring Chinese artwork and collectible items throughout this catalog. This collection generally shows well, with some light external age/wear.

This lot includes 83, many two-sided, handwritten antique pieces of correspondence shown in the corresponding images. This material includes letters from the Ithaca, Trumansburg, and Halseyville, New York areas from the 1840s, and includes numerous Ithaca-area references, as well as many examples of purchases and ownership in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, signed by Calvin Halsey & Co. Halsey has a documented history in Tompkins and Seneca Counties and Halseyville is located near Taughannock Falls State Park on the west shore of Cayuga Lake.

All correspondence is in good condition and each is kept inside clear binder sheets. Due to the high volume of books and other interesting items on paper we are selling at this auction, we will be offering a number of bulk buy opportunities such as this one during the course of the day. This volume is rare, with no other 1907 printings found when researched (later 1913 copies were found). The volume shows external age/wear, with chipping and some loss to the paper on the boards and the cloth spine. The front free endpaper is detached, with chipping. The pages and the beautiful illustrations are clean. The book measures approximately 14" x 10.5" and is unpaginated.

Condition/Details: Bound in light yellow paper-covered boards with light blue lettering and pictorial design and blue cloth spine backing, this antique volume is a handsome copy of this original automobile almanac in the original paper dust jacket. The dust jacket has the same pictorial design as is on the front board, of a man reading a book while driving a car. This volume is illustrated throughout by Gluyas Williams. This work contains automobile facts for each month of the year, as well as census statistics on automobiles for the early Twentieth Century. The volume shows light external age/wear, with light shelf wear and minor rubbing along the extremities. The jacket shows some wear, with rubbing and light soiling. The volume is solidly bound with lightly age-toned pages. The book measures approximately 5" x 8.25" and contains 62 pages.
