This early novel by McMurtry tells the story of the restless and lovable Patsy Carpenter, dissatisfied by her husband, lovers and others as she travels across the American West. Notes: Bound in library-issued bindings, this collection includes a rare set of non-consecutive bulletins from the American Geographical and Statistical Society, spanning sixty two years. The bulletins cover a variety of topics, from various geographic areas worldwide to agriculture and crops. The volumes are illustrated with engravings and fold-out maps throughout. The bound issues of this bulletin are bound in marbled boards with three quarter leather, or in brown cloth boards. Most of the volumes have library-issued paper dust jackets. In addition to the thirty four bound volumes, there are several volumes in the original wrappers, including number two of volume one and numbers four through seven of volume forty six. These ex-library volumes show external age/wear, many are lacking spine covers or have detached boards. Overall, the volumes appear to be well bound with lightly age toned pages. Condition/Details: Decoratively bound in original bright blue cloth with gilt embossing, this antique volume is an early work containing historic facts of baseball, including the games beginnings, development and popularity. Albert Goodwill Spalding (Byron, Illinois September 2, 1850 September 9, 1915 in Point Loma, California) was a professional baseball player, manager and co-founder of A.G. Spalding sporting goods company. (courtesy of Wikipedia) The work is illustrated with cartoons by Homer C. Davenport, and many early photographs, including several fold-out photographs and cartoons. Condition/Details: Bound in maroon cloth with bright gilt embossing, this antique volume is a signed version of H. G. Wells' work on the history of the world. The volume is signed on the half title page. Included with the book is a certificate of authenticity from GAI, certifying Wells' signature, with the number GV 519349. The work is lacking the title/copyright page. The volume shows some age/wear indications, with some bumping and rubbing on the exterior boards and slight sunning to the spine. The text block is tightly bound, with clean, crisp pages. The inside of the front board appears to have had a book plate on it, with remnants of the adhesive still on it, and a previous owner's signature is on the inside of the rear board. He served in government for three decades, twice as Prime Minister. A teenage convert to Anglicanism, he was nonetheless the country's first and thus far only Prime Minister who was born Jewish. He played an instrumental role in the creation of the modern Conservative Party after the Corn Laws schism of 1846 (courtesy of Wikipedia). Two of the volumes have been rebound in blue library bindings. The work is illustrated with frontispiece portraits.
