The books are bound in quality leather with desirable features such as gilt tooling, raised bands, deep pattern blind-stamp tooling to the boards, and were executed with a high degree of competence. The quality of the leather and the workmanship shows beautifully, this was clearly a labor of love. The books have the appearance one would expect of important seventeenth or eighteenth century bindings, when they were new.

Title: The Female Spy; or, Treason in the Camp: A Story of the Revolution

Condition/Details: Bound in tan paper wrappers with black lettering, this antique volume is a very scarce original printing of this writing on the American Revolution. This work was published in 1853, with all text printed in two columns. The volume shows age/wear, with moisture indications and foxing, and the rear wrapper is lacking, with the volume ending at the last page of text. The title page is creased, and the text block has a crease along the bottom corner. The front wrapper shows some loss and chipping. While this volume shows age/wear, it is a very scarce, early printing of this work. The book measures approximately 5.75" x 9.5" and contains 112 pages.

The volume shows moderate external age/wear, with rubbing and sunning to the cloth. Several pages towards the rear of the volume are detached, and there is a moisture indication along the bottom edge of the text block. This impressively large volume shows well, with some fine patina. The book measures approximately 9" x 12" and 9.5" tall. The work is unpaginated.

This unique collection contains copper and steel plates from the 1912 publication of The Elmira Prison Camp: A History of the Military Prison at Elmira, New York, by Clayton Wood Holmes. These original items were used to engrave the illustrations throughout the volume, and include portraits of important people connected to the prison camp, and sites from around the camp, including buildings and houses in the area. This collection includes 27 copper plates of varying sizes and six steel plates. The pieces show well, with some fine patina. These items were found in the attic of a house in Elmira, NY.
