Notes: Bound in yellow cloth with bright red lettering to spine, this set is a scarce facsimile reprint of Georg Rhau's original 1544 work on church music. Georg Rhau (1488 1548) was a German publisher and composer. He was one of the most significant music printers in Germany in the first half of the 16th century, during the early period of the Protestant Reformation. He was principally active in Wittenberg, the town where Martin Luther famously nailed the 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church, initiating the Reformation, and Rhau's support as a printer was critical to Martin Luther's success.

The volumes show mild external age/wear, and are solidly bound with clean, bright pages. The four volumes (entitled "Altus," "Bassus," "Discantus" and "Tenor") are contained in a cardboard slipcase (with light soiling to top and bottom boards). This edition has an afterword by Ludwig Finscher and a bibliography of the works of Konrad Ameln (to whom this work is dedicated). Each of these small oblong books measures approximately 8" x 6".
