Condition / Notes: This is a scarce third improved edition of this collection of colored plates by Ze'ev Raban (1890-1970), a leading painter, decorative artist, and industrial designer of the Bezalel school style, and was one of the founders of the Israeli art world

Antique volume is string-bound in green cloth with stamped gilt lettering to spine. The words "Canticum Canticorum" appear stamped in gilt within elaborate circular ornamental design, also in gilt, with silver doves. Borders of front and rear cover have gilt dots. Book shows external wear, with loss of decorative inset to rear cover. Small areas of discoloration can be seen on front and rear covers. Binding is sound. Volume has silver and blue endpapers. This work contains 26 tipped-in color plates with glassine covers. Plates contain Hebrew text with English translation on facing page.

Details: There are four near-antique albums in this collection, three of them filled with snapshots. The Boy Scout album, with an embossed cover showing Scouts canoeing and photographing other Scouts cooking over a campfire, dates from 1929-30. The pictures inside show more Scouts, Washington D.C. from the air, the George Washington bridge, Radio City Music Hall, an eclipse, trains, and Christmas scenes.

A 1934 album from Hamburg shows scenes from an ocean crossing and Germany before it was bombed in World War II. Several unique real photo postcards (RPPCs) are included. A 1959 album contains color photos of trips to the Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and other Pacific islands.

The fourth item is a complete German cigarette card album from the early 1930s. Cards and black & white photographs illustrate the latest technology, (including airplanes and zeppelins) as well as scenes of classical paintings, aboriginal peoples, curiosities of nature and foreign countries, etc.

- Le armi necessarie alla battaglia spirituale, operetta composta da Santa Caterina da Bologna by Catherine of Bologna - Dated 1786 by Unknown - A theological work by Saint Catherine of Bologna (1413 - 1463, canonized 1712), followed by a biography of her by her secretary shortly after her death. St. Catherine was an Italian mystic and writer whose spiritual writings were popular in Italy until the end of the 18th century. This text, her most important work, was originally published in 1483 for female novices. It contains a large part of St. Catherine's counsels and instructions of spiritual faith, together with an account of her own struggles of faith. It appears that she composed this work with the aid of her confessor, shortly before her death. The work is illustrated with a frontispiece portrait. Sister Bembo's work includes the abbess' words, as well as anecdotes about her.

Antique volume is bound in original printed and illustrated wrappers. Book shows external age/wear, with chipped spine displaying loss. Minor soiling is visible on covers. Binding is somewhat shaken. Age-toned pages that show occasional foxing and marginal staining.

Details: In addition to photographs, this antique album contains forms for a ship's log, which is partially filled with an account of a trip through the Panama Canal. A large photograph of the U.S.S. Columbia, taken in one of the Canal's locks, is dated 1921. Other interesting pictures from this (or another) trip show early submarines, American soldiers at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; real photo postcars (RPPCs) of other U.S. Navy ships (e.g., the Oshkosh, the Nevada, the Oklahoma, the North Dakota, the Vermont, the Memphis, the Tennessee); and RPPCs of Masai tribe members in Africa.

Details: This varied lot of assorted vintage and antique estate ephemera includes a framed broadside advertising an 1824 play at the Philadelphia Theatre. Also framed is a highly decorative 1896 Grand Army of the Republic certificate of appreciation.

Among the thirteen maps are 1950s gas station and topological maps (Glacier National Park), a 1918 war map, a 1933 National Geographic map of Asia, Mexico in 190, 1914, and 1916; Pacific islands in 1921, Central and South America in the 1930s, etc. etc. Almanacs date from 1851, 1859, and 1881. The pamphlet on Mt. Rainier was published by the Tacoma Eastern Railroad Company in 1908. Also included is a packet of 19th century correspondence, billheads, and checks.

Details: This collection of memorabilia from Ivy League university includes items from Yale, Columbia, Penn, Princeton, and Cornell. Included is a professionally made, 86" long blue and white banner declaring, "For God For Country and For Yale." Princeton is represented by a 1943 football ticket (against Columbia) and a 1956 menu honoring the Class of '25 at a dinner held in Japan. Two slim books are from the University of Pennsylvania: the Record of the Class of 1900, and "Penn Charter Graduates 1875-1911." Two yearbooks are included, one from Columbia (1926) and the other from Cornell (1922). Two clean napkins from the Cornell Club of New York round out the lot. Also included is a ribbon from the 1915 Penn-Cornell cross country run.
