Condition/Details: Bound in vellum with raised bands, this antique volume is a scarce early eighteenth-century theological work by John de Lugo (1583 - 1660), who used to call himself a "Hispalensis." De Lugo was a Spanish Jesuit and Cardinal, was an eminent theologian of the Renaissance. Latin text appears in double columns. The volume shows significant external age/wear. Rear board is detached and a number of the final pages are loose. Age-toned pages are clean. The book measures approximately 9 1/4" x 13 1/2". Condition/Details: Bound in three-quarter leather with marbled boards and bright gilt lettering to spine, this antique volume is a scarce biography of Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise de Sévigné (1626 – 1696), a French aristocrat remembered for her letter-writing. Baron Charles Athanase Walckenaer (1771–1852) was a French civil servant and scientist. Walckenaer introduced the full biography according to the English model into French literature through his works. The work is illustrated with many photographs and drawings of the uncovered relics, including several fold-out illustrations. This handsome volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with age-toned pages. The book measures approximately 4 3/4" x 7" and contains 544 pages.
