Condition/Details: Bound in black cloth with green embossing, this antique play is signed by both of the acclaimed authors. Both signatures are on the front free endpaper in blue ink. This volume features a pictorial title page and illustrations by Herman Rosse.

Ben Hecht (February 28, 1894 – April 18, 1964) was an American screenwriter, director, producer, playwright, and novelist. Called "the Shakespeare of Hollywood", he received screen credits, alone or in collaboration, for the stories or screenplays of some 70 films and as a prolific storyteller, authored 35 books and created some of the most entertaining screenplays or plays in America. According to film historian Richard Corliss, he was "the" Hollywood screenwriter, someone who "personified Hollywood itself." The Dictionary of Literary Biography - American Screenwriters, calls him "one of the most successful screenwriters in the history of motion pictures."

Gene Fowler (born Eugene Devlan) (March 8, 1890 – July 2, 1960) was an American journalist, author and dramatist. Fowler worked for the New York Daily Mirror, and then became newspaper syndication manager for King Features. His later work included over a dozen screenplays, mostly written in the 1930s, and a number of books including biographies and memoirs. Throughout her career, she has been awarded several prestigious awards, including the Golden Lion Award, the New York State Elena Cornaro Award and the first national Elena Cornaro Award. She was a former member of the National Council on the Humanities and was the first female Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York. She is an award-winning playwright, poet and also writes fiction.
Henry Paolucci, Professor Emeritus of Government and Politics at the time of his death (January 1, 1999), was a renowned teacher (CCNY, Brooklyn College/CUNY, Iona College, St. John's University), Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party of New York and U.S. Senate Candidate (1964). Wallace Nutting (1861 - 1941) was a U.S. minister, photographer, artist, and antiquarian, who is best known for his framed pictures. He also was an accomplished author, lecturer, furniture maker, antiques expert and collector. His atmospheric photographs helped spur the Colonial Revival style. Condition/Details: Bound in leather-covered boards, this volume is a scarce antique Italian volume of Longini's classic work On the Sublime. This volume features writing in Greek and Italian, with mention of Zacharias Pearce and P. Wilson on the title page.

On the Sublime is both a treatise on aesthetics and a work of literary criticism. It is written in an epistolary form and the final part, possibly dealing with public speaking, has been lost. The treatise is dedicated to Posthumius Terentianus, a cultured Roman and public figure, though little else is known of him. On the Sublime is a compendium of literary exemplars, with about 50 authors spanning 1,000 years mentioned or quoted. Details/Condition: This original piece, entitled "Early June Brides", features a hand-colored antique photograph, in the classic style of renowned artist Wallace Nutting. This print is in the original frame, and features a pastoral scene of a winding country road through an orchard, the trees full of delicate pink blossoms.

Wallace Nutting (1861 - 1941) was a U.S. minister, photographer, artist, and antiquarian, who is best known for his framed pictures. He also was an accomplished author, lecturer, furniture maker, antiques expert and collector. His atmospheric photographs helped spur the Colonial Revival style. Notes: Bound in green cloth with bright gilt embossing, this antique set is a scarce pomological work published as a report of the New York Agricultural Experiment Station for the Year 1903. The first volume contains a frontispiece illustration; both volumes are lavishly illustrated with bright color plates. The volumes show moderate external age/wear. These are ex-library volumes, with handwritten numbers on the spine and a stamp on the title pages showing they were compliments of Hon. John Godfrey Saxe. Both volumes show some rubbing to the spines and boards. The text blocks are well bound with lightly age-toned pages. The volumes show external and internal moisture indications, concentrated along the top edges. The books measure approximately 7" x 9 1/4". In addition to this set, this lot includes plates only from The Cherries of New York loose within the boards, as well as some color plates from the 1893 Report of the Asst. Pomologist. These plates also show moisture indications, concentrated along the top edges.

Notes: This antique set provides an Italian collection of the works of Plato. The work includes volume IV, section II; volume V, section II; and volume VI, section I of Platonis Opera Omnia. Also included are volumes II and III of Platonis Leges et Epinomis and volume II, section I of Platonis Gorgias. These are ex-library books, with stamps on the spines and endpapers, bookplates on the front endpaper and a sheet tipped-on to the front free endpaper. The volumes are in different bindings, including green and blue cloth and marbled paper-covered boards. The volumes show external age/wear, with one board detached and a spine cover separated along the external gutter, and sunning and rubbing to the boards and spines. The bindings show some play, with age-toned and chipping pages. The books measure approximately 5" x 8.5".

These volumes come from the collection of notable Dante historians Anne and Henry Paolucci, found throughout this catalog. She is an award-winning playwright, poet and also writes fiction.
