Condition/Details: Bound in green cloth with gilt embossing of Mexican national emblem to front and rear covers, this antique volume is a scarce early history of that country by Brantz Mayer (1809 - 1879), a prominent nineteenth-century Baltimore citizen, historian, and writer. He was secretary of the legation in Mexico between 1841 and 1844. The work is illustrated with many in-text and full-page engravings documenting historical objects and offering panoramic views of the country and its cities. This historically important volume shows significant external age/wear. Binding is shaken. Age-toned pages are unmarked and show foxing throughout. The book measures approximately 6 1/2" x 9 1/2" and contains 433 pages.
