This lot includes two framed pictures belonging to the estate of Jacob S. Coxey shown in the corresponding image. Coxey twice led Coxey's Army (in 1894 and 1914), bands of unemployed men, on marches from Massillon, Ohio, to Washington, D.C. to present a "Petition in Boots" demanding that the United States Congress appropriate money to create jobs for the unemployed. Coxey believed the government should print unbacked paper money, or greenbacks, in order to finance public works projects. At the time, these ideas were greeted with ridicule by many in Congress and the press, but they later became founding principles of the New Deal era.

This lot contains an original antique pastel (c. 1895; 14 1/2" x 9 1/2") and a hand-tinted photo (c. 1920; 12 1/2" x 12), with discoloring along bottom. Condition/Details: Bound in leatherette with decorative design showing raised lettering to front cover, this antique folio is a scarce reproduction of the seventy-one issues of the weekly newspaper published in France by and for the American Expeditionary Forces during the period from February 8, 1918, to June, 3, 1919. The work contains many in-text illustrations, numerous illustrated advertisements and cartoons. This well-preserved volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with age-toned pages. She also won the Tony Award for Best Actress in the first Tony Award ceremony in 1947. She is ranked as the fourth greatest female star of American cinema of all time by the American Film Institute. She is widely remembered for her performance as Ilsa Lund in the 1942 classic Casablanca. Condition/Details: This antique folio is a scarce history of Belgium during the First World War. The historically significant work is lavishly illustrated with many full-page illustrations and tipped-in photographs. Captions appear throughout the text in both English and French, with translation of illustration texts at the rear in Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and German. Included in the selection of texts is an essay by noted Belgian writer Maurice Maeterlinck entitled "The Resistance". The covers of this disbound volume show external age/wear, with chipping along extremities of original pictorial wrappers. Text block is intact with clean, unmarked pages. The book measures approximately 11" x 15 1/2" and contains 52 pages.
