Condition/Details: Bound in brown cloth with bright gilt embossing, this antique volume is a scarce autobiographical account of the military career of Confederate General John Bell Hood (1831 - 1879), arguably one of the best brigade and division commanders in the Confederate States Army. The work is illustrated with tissue-guarded portraits and contains four battle maps, one of which is a fold-out map showing the positions of the Confederate Armies of Mississippi & Tennessee on May 19th, 1864. The volume shows significant external age/wear. Front hinge is cracked. The text block is solidly bound with age-toned pages that show foxing throughout and moisture markings to the top margins. The book measures approximately 6 1/4" x 8 3/4" and contains 358 pages.
