Details: This rich collection of antique lithographs and engravings includes items from the early decades of the 19th century into the first years of the 20th. Subjects include military scenes, political cartoons and satire, Native American indians, fashion plates, and other purely decorative pictures. Also included are three pages of cartoons, dating perhaps from around 1815-1820. One shows people playing musical instruments, one shows different occupations, and the other is more enigmatic. Book Details: This lot includes the group of Ogden Nash items shown in the corresponding image. This material includes a signed copy of his bookbook "Versus," and a signed letter from the poet. The letter refers to his lecture tour during the fall of 1941. The items in this lot were part of the personal collection of Robert E. White, Jr. Mr. White was a former editor and publisher at the Oxford Press, and a long-time theater reviewer of local, regional, national and international productions, with emphasis on Cincinnati, New York City and London. This collection represents the many noted performers Mr. White met, interviewed and knew throughout his career, with a number of autographed and original pieces. Due to the high volume of books and other interesting items on paper we are selling at this auction, we will be offering a number of bulk buy opportunities such as this one during the course of the day.

Frederic Ogden Nash (August 19, 1902 - May 19, 1971) was an American poet well known for his light verse. At the time of his death in 1971, the New York Times said his "droll verse with its unconventional rhymes made him the country's best-known producer of humorous poetry". Ogden Nash wrote over 500 pieces of comic verse. The best of his work was published in 14 volumes between 1931 and 1972.

He was a noted collector of art and jewels, particularly diamonds, and he bequeathed the "Mazarin diamonds" to Louis XIV in 1661, some of which remain in the collection of the Louvre museum in Paris. Details: This rich and generous collection of antique and vintage periodicals includes New York City and Upstate newspapers, magazines, fold-illustrations, and a delightful souvenir booklet about Niagara Falls. Many of the publications relate to teaching and education, and include many issues of "The Teachers' Gazette" and the "Journal of the NYS Teacher's Association." The education periodicals range in dates from 1900-1937, and are complemented by many copies of "The Student" newspaper of Franklin Academy, Malone, NY dating from 1937-41.

Interesting general publications include newspapers from Buffalo, NYC, Utica, and Rochester, with cover features and cartoons on the 1893 Columbian Exposition World's Fair, the Spanish-American War, the McKinley assassination, and politics of the day. One idealistic cartoon depicts a Cuban soldier dreaming of rescue by America; another in "The Defender," a temperance/prohibition newspaper, depicts Mormonism allied with saloon keepers in trampling the American eagle underfoot.
