Title: Le armi necessarie alla battaglia spirituale operetta composta da Santa Caterina da Bologna / Specchio d' illuminazione sulla vita di S. Caterina da Bologna composto dalla sua compagna Suor Illuminata Bembo
Authors: Saint Catherine of Bologna / Illuminata Bembo
Publisher: unknown publisher
Printing Year: 1786

Condition/Details: Bound in original wrappers, this antique volume is a scarce edition of a theological work by Saint Catherine of Bologna (1413 - 1463, canonized 1712), followed by a biography of her by her secretary shortly after her death. St. Catherine was an Italian mystic and writer whose spiritual writings were popular in Italy until the end of the 18th century. This text, her most important work, was originally published in 1483 for female novices. It contains a large part of St. Catherine's counsels and instructions of spiritual faith, together with an account of her own struggles of faith. It appears that she composed this work with the aid of her confessor, shortly before her death. The work is illustrated with a frontispiece portrait. Sister Bembo's work includes the abbess' words, as well as anecdotes about her. The volume shows external age/wear, with chipped spine and minor soiling to covers. The book is solidly bound with age-toned pages. The book measures approximately 5.25" x 8" and contains 112/149 pages. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50
