Condition/Details: Bound in wrappers, this volume is a scarce exhibition catalogue dedicated to the Wari empire and its culture. The Wari were a Middle Horizon civilization that flourished in the Andes in the south-central coastal area of modern-day Peru, from about A.D. 500 to 900. The capital city of the same name is located 25 km (16 mi) north-east of the modern city of Ayacucho, Peru. This city was the center of a civilization that covered much of the highlands and coast of modern Peru. The work is illustrated with color photographs and area maps. There are also a number of diagrams. The volume shows very light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean pages. The book measures approximately 9.5" x 11.25" and contains 465 pages. Condition/Details: Bound in blindstamped maroon cloth with bright gilt embossed lettering to spine and illustration to front board, this antique volume is a scarce work by Philadelphia architect Isaac Hobbs (1817 - 1896). The book is illustrated with over 100 bright engravings, including 84 house plans, many of which were originally printed in "Godey's Ladies' Book" and "The Farmer." The remaining plans had never before appeared in print. Each listing contains a drawing of the exterior of the house, a plan, and a description in which the author recommends building materials, suggests a cost for construction, describes the style of the house and discusses the characteristics of a suitable tenant. A diverse collection of Victorian cottages, villas, churches, etc. The volume shows external age/wear, with moisture markings to spine and extremities.
