Printing Year: 1937 First edition

Condition/Details: Bound in brown cloth with bright gilt embossing, this volume is a scarce survey of metalwork up to the date of publication. Title: Irma Stern: A Feast for the Eye
Author: Marion Arnold
Publisher: Fernwood Press (Cape Town)
Printing Year: 1995

Condition/Details: Bound in gray cloth with bright embossed white lettering, this volume is a scarce collection of the work of South African painter Irma Stern (1894 - 1966). Irma Stern was a South African painter who studied in Germany from 1913 to 1920. Her greatest influence was Expressionism and she played a huge role in introducing modern art to South Africa. When she first displayed her work in her native country, it was controversial. There is now a museum of her art located in Cape Town. This book discusses Stern's life, her career as a modernist painter and the impact of Africa on her imagery. It also explores her view of the external world, as depicted in her paintings of people and places; her interpretation of others, as expressed in her portraits; and her vision of nature, as revealed in her still-lifes and flower-paintings. The work is illustrated with many color plates. The volume is in excellent condition, and is solidly bound with clean, bright pages. Well-preserved dustjacket is intact. The book measures approximately 11" x 12" and contains 156 pages. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50
