Title: Norman Rockwell: A Definitive Catalogue
Author: Laurie Norton Moffatt
Publisher: Norman Rockwell Museum at Stockbridge
Printing Year: 1986
Number of Volumes: Complete 2 volume set

Notes: Bound in blue cloth with black spine labels and bright gilt embossing, this slipcased set is a scarce collection of the work of Norman Rockwell. Arthur C. Danto's review in the "New York Times" characterized this book in the following manner: "(Norman Rockwell: A Definitive Catalogue) speaks eloquently, simply as an object, of its sponsors' belief in its subject's art-historical importance. The scholarship is stupendous and thorough. Nearly 4,000 entries - all but a few illustrated and all identified as to medium, size, date of origin and whereabouts of original (surprisingly often ''unknown'') -clearly express the intention that the book be used for reference; and its two volumes are bound and cased as if heavy archival use was anticipated. It lacks the ingratiating text of the coffee table book, and its color illustrations, while serviceable, are inferior to those in Thomas Buechner's two books on Rockwell. Who but a Rockwell scholar would be interested in schematic drawings of pup tents for 'The Boy Scout Hike Book' or an illustration of the right- and wrong-sized shoe, done with podiatric accuracy?"

The work is illustrated with frontispiece portraits. The volumes are in excellent condition, and are solidly bound with clean pages. The books measure approximately 9" x 12". Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $15.50
