Condition/Details: Bound in paper wrappers, this volume is a scarce, author-signed first edition of this hard-to-find work. The volume is accompanied by a typed, signed letter from author James F. Nihan. The letter features a warm message to its recipient featuring content relating to the "...amazing series of events in Poland..." and references to the recipient's letter sent to the author. Additionally, a typed letter from the White House featuring content related to Lebanon and Grenada and a facsimile signature of Ronald Reagan is also included. The volume shows mild external age/wear with light shelf wear and some surface rubbing to the wrappers, and is solidly bound with clean pages. The volume has had some professional restoration work, including tape along the internal hinge of both boards and new, marbled endpapers. Condition/Details: Bound in quarter leather with marble paper-covered boards, this antique volume is a scarce work that the author states was an attempt to "...rouse the public to a just indignation against Quacks and their Abettors." The volume shows external age/wear with rubbing to the corners, edges and surfaces of the boards and spine. The boards have started to separate from the spine. The text block is solidly bound with lightly age-toned pages, a few of which bear instances of underlining or marginalia. A previous owner's name is inscribed inside the front board. Condition/Details: Decoratively bound in brown cloth with colorful lettering and images of fairies on the front board and spine, this antique work is a rare first edition containing several stories from "Faeryland," written by English author Fergus Hume, with illustrations by M. Dunlop. The work contains illustrations in the text throughout, with at least two full-page illustrations, including the frontispiece. The volume shows external age/wear, with the top and bottom portions of the spine cover lacking and the remaining spine cover loose. The boards have moisture indications and rubbing along the extremities. The text block is solidly bound with age-toned pages. There are indentations along the tope and outside edges of the pages. The book measures approximately 7" x 8 1/2" and contains 191 pages.

The volume features a book plate affixed to the half-title page that bears an original signature of Lyndon Baines Johnson. The work is illustrated with 72 pages of photographs, and also includes appendices of letters, documents and maps. The volume shows external age/wear with some edge wear to the jacket. The jacket displays rubbing to its edges and surfaces. The lower section of the front jacket displays a 2" long tear. The text block is solidly bound with clean pages. Loosely laid-in the book are two postcards from the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin. The book measures approximately 6 1/2" x 9 3/4" and contains 636 pages.

Condition/Details: Bound in green cloth-covered boards with a gilt vignette to the front board and gilt lettering to the spine, this antique volume is a scarce account of Charles Francis Hall's second Arctic expedition. According to The Arctic Bibliography 6486: "This expedition (like that of 1860-62) was supported by private subscription and both were undertaken to search for the records of the Franklin Expedition and `to promote and benefit the cause of geography, navigation, natural history and science.' From winter quarters in the Wagner Inlet and Repulse Bay regions, Hall's four man party explored the shores north and west from Melville Peninsula to King William Island, 1864-69."

The work is illustrated with two steel-engraved portrait plates; heliotype plates from photographs; wood engravings within the text; thirteen maps, some of which fold out, including a large map located in the rear endpaper pocket (which has been sectioned & backed with linen). The volume shows mild external age/wear with light shelf wear, some rubbing to the surfaces of the boards and a small stain to the front board. The front inside hinge has started to crack. The text block is solidly bound with clean, lightly age-toned pages. The book measures approximately 8 1/4" x 10 1/2" and contains 644 pages.

Notes: Bound in blue cloth-covered boards with a bright gilt device to the front board, gilt to the top edge of the text block, and with bright gilt lettering and designs to the spine, these antique volumes are part of a large set that studies the discoveries at Knossos. Knossos, also known as Labyrinth, or Knossos Palace, "...is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and probably the ceremonial and political centre of the Minoan civilization and culture" (courtesy of Wikipedia). This lot includes: volume one, The Neolithic and Early and Middle Minoan Ages; volume two, part one, Fresh Lights on Origins and External Relations; and volume two, part two, Town-Houses in Knossos of the New Era and Restored West Palace Section, with Its State Approach.

The work is illustrated with numerous figures within the text, plans, tables, colored and supplementary plates, some of which fold out. Each volume of this three-volume set has been collated, and contains the called-for maps, color plates and other plates that are listed in the table of contents as “Facing” a certain page. Volume two, part two also contains the three sets of general plans in the rear pocket. The volumes show mild external age/wear, and are solidly bound with lightly age-toned pages. Notes: Decoratively bound in marbled boards with three quarter leather and raised spine bands, this antique set provides a description of flowers and ferns of the United States, accompanied by many gorgeous color plates. Thomas Meehan (1826  – 1901) was a noted British-born nurseryman, botanist and author. He worked as a Kew gardener in 1846–1848, and thereafter he moved to Germantown in Philadelphia.
