Notes: Displaying elaborately embossed boards and spines with raised bands and gilt-lettered labels, this antique set is a scarce edition of the work of the Jacobean dramatists, who collaborated on about a dozen plays between the years 1606 - 1616. The work is illustrated with steel-engraved frontispiece portraits of the authors. The volumes show very mild external age/wear, and are solidly bound with clean, bright pages. Condition/Details: Bound in green cloth-backed spine with pictorial paper-covered boards, this volume is a scarce collection of the French fabulist's work with color-plate illustrations by R. de la Neziere. His black-and-white illustrations are to be found at the heads and tails of individual fables. The volume shows light external age/wear, with bumped corners and top and bottom of spine showing tears. The book is solidly bound with age-toned pages. First three pages have been dog-eared, resulting in minor tear to fly-leaf. Previous owner's name is discreetly signed on front endpaper. The book is based upon his experiences as a convict in Australia where he had been shipped from Ireland upon conviction for his part in the "Fenian Conspiracy." The collection of short stories explores many topics, including diary-keeping, life in Paris and late-term abortion. The author is considered one of the finest writers of female erotica, although this book doesn't focus on the topic. The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean pages. The book has uncut pages from 217 to the end. The book measures approximately 8" x 5.5" and contains 221 pages.
