Details: This lot includes the limited edition Waterford Crystal collectible shown in the corresponding image(s). This crystal baseball is commemorative the 2000 World Series Champions, the New York Yankees. This Waterford collectible includes the original paperwork and special edition certificate (numbered 1590 of 2000), as well as the original box. The baseball has a paper label which reads "Waterford Crystal, Made In Ireland", with the iconic seahorse logo of the company. The baseball measures approximately 2.5" in diameter.

Waterford Crystal is a trademark brand of crystal glassware produced in throughout Europe, most notably in Ireland, Germany, and the Czech Republic, by the company WWRD Holdings Ltd.

Condition / Notes: This item is in like-new condition, in the original box. The paper label on the crystal baseball shows some light edge wear, and the original box shows some loss due to a label being peeled off.

A protégé of Flaubert, Maupassant's stories are characterized by their economy of style and efficient, effortless dénouement. Many of the stories are set during the Franco-Prussian War of the 1870s and several describe the futility of war and the innocent civilians who, caught in the conflict, emerge changed. He authored some 300 short stories, six novels, three travel books, and one volume of verse. The story "Boule de Suif" ("Ball of Fat", 1880) is often accounted his masterpiece. His most unsettling horror story, "Le Horla" (1887), was about madness and suicide.

Illustrated with six engravings, including frontispiece portrait of Washington.

Born in Buffalo, New York, in 1923, Penney acquired his BA from Yale University in 1965, a law degree from the University of Virginia in 1951, and in 1995 he was honored with a Doctorate of Fine Arts from the State University of New York for his life-long support for the arts. Dr. Penney received many other awards for his continuing contributions in this field.

Dr. Penney began collecting art by Western New Yorkers in the mid-30's, eventually collecting more than 100,000 objects that he kept and researched in his own home. Dr. Penney loaned his artwork extensively throughout Western New York and the rest of the world. In the early 1990s, he donated his collection of Western New York art to the Burchfield Art Center at Buffalo State College. As a result, the center was renamed the Burchfield-Penney Art Center to memorialize his generous and landmark donation.
