Condition/Details: Bound in brown cloth-covered boards with an illustrated front board and gilt to the top edge of the text block, this antique volume is a scarce illustrated poem by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The work features the illustrations of Kenyon Cox. All called-for illustrations are present. The volume also contains a biographical sketch of Rossetti by Mrs. Schuyler van Rensselaer. The volume shows external age/wear with rubbing to the surfaces, corners and edges of the boards and spine. The spine and edges of the boards display some fraying cloth. The lower 4 1/4" of the spine cloth has started to separate from the spine. The front flyleaf is detached and present. The text block is bound with age-toned pages that display occasional foxing, concentrated in the margins. The illustrations remain clean and display well. The book measures approximately " x " and is unpaginated.

Condition/Details: Rebound in forest green cloth with gilt embossing, this antique volume is a scarce early work on the game of Chess, containing volumes one and two. François-André Danican Philidor (September 7, 1726 – August 31, 1795) was a French composer who contributed to the early development of the opéra comique. He was also regarded as the best chess player of his age. Philidor's book Analyse du jeu des Échecs was considered a standard chess manual for at least a century. He was commonly referred to as André Danican Philidor during his lifetime. (biography courtesy of Wikipedia)
