WHAT
IS EPHEMERA?
Whether
it’s a Chicago World’s Fair souvenir pamphlet,
the autograph of a Hollywood starlet, a broadside from
colonial America or anywhere in between, you could see
it in a National Book Auctions catalog.
Ephemera collecting continues to steadily increase in
popularity and new entrants persistently identify undiscovered
areas and sub-genres of collecting opportunity. Not
only is this an intriguing category of collectibles,
it is populated with many valuable individual pieces.
The
term “ephemera” has been adopted by the
collectibles world and applied to include all manner
of paper items which were originally intended to be
discarded and are now considered collectible. Common
examples include postcards, tickets, matchbooks, calling
cards, posters & broadsides, lobby cards, milk bottle
tops, timetables, an endless array of advertising pieces,
billheads, greeting cards, and the list goes on …
and on! We perform a granular sort of ephemera consigned
to us, isolating the important individual pieces and
creating compelling, themed group lots from the balance
of the collection.
National
Book Auctions is proud to be a member of the Ephemera
Society of America.
