Details/Condition: This sturdy wooden privacy study carrel is one of several of these units that we are selling at this auction. These units were constructed on site and are very strong, made of wood with some formica finishing. Each unit separates into two pieces with the top carrel bays coming off (in one piece) from the base which has four legs. Each bay is wired with a standard 2-plug, 3-prong electrical outlet and fixtures for fluorescent lighting. The perimeter of the interior of each bay is divided into organizer compartments. The complete unit is 97" long, 30.5" deep and stands 53.5" tall. The unit is solid with some age/wear, the light fixtures on this unit may require some attention. Elson; full page color frontispiece in each part with many other black and white photos + illustrations each cover has an illustration with 2 swords on the sides & 2 military men on horses facing each other on the bottom. This history was originally issued in sixteen weekly magazine parts to subscribers. 13 are in the present lot. The missing issues are 13,14 and 15. These are not reprints, and this is not the book published after the series appeared in magazine form; these are the original magazines. But the prize is the magazines themselves. They have been preserved intact and complete, each still in its original heavy cardboard covers, and each with the full-color frontispiece intact and present. | Lot 998 | Title: The History of Hindostan
Author: Thomas Maurice Publisher: H. L. Galabin Printing Year: 1798, volume two of two
Condition/Details: Bound in its original leather boards, this antique text is a striking early Eastern history, addressing Hindostan’s "arts and its sciences as connected with the history of the other great empires of Asia, during the most ancient periods of the world." This auction is for volume two, of this two-volume set. The work is illustrated with nine striking original steel engravings, including one folding. There is an interesting signature on the titlepage and last textual page which we haven’t been able to fully decipher. The first initial is ‘R’ and the last name ends in ‘salom’ – it looks like "Arounapsalom". The volume shows significant external age/wear including spine and board corner repair, and is securely bound with hinge reinforcing, it has lightly tone pages, some scattered foxing and library markings, there is some tape repair to the final text page. The book measures approximately 8.25" x 10.25" and contains 705 pages. The books from this library are generally in good condition with some wear and library markings. Condition/Details: Simple hard bind in blue cloth with white paper spine label. Two volumes in one original binding without plates ( 8 ) but work is otherwise complete. An extensive account written from daily journals by the leaders of an expedition which left from Portsmouth in January 1830. Includes an appendix listing the stores drawn from military depot for this expedition of discovery. The book measures approximately 4.5" x 6.25" and contains 706 pages.
